JACKY TSAI | CREATES GIANT EGG FOR 'BIG EGG HUNT' IN NYC

April 9th 2014
Our very own Jacky Tsai, has been invited, along with over 260 other world-renowned artists, designers and architects including Jeff Koons, Tracey Emin, Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger and Zaha Hadid, to create a large-scale sculpture in the shape of an egg for the Fabergé Big Egg Hunt, an interactive public art display designed to raise awareness and funds for Elephant Family and Studio in a School, a program that brings visual arts to New York City’s public schools.

Last week, each egg was ‘hidden’ somewhere throughout the five boroughs of New York where it will be displayed until 17th April. While we were in Manhattan last week for the Affordable Art Fair, Carys and I had the opportunity to hunt out Jacky’s egg, a beautifully hand-painted porcelain creation, which has been placed (and looked fantastic!) in the window of Todd Merrill Studio, a high-end designer furniture store and gallery in Soho.

An interactive project, members of the public are encouraged to participate in the hunt by downloading a smart phone application, which can be used to reveal egg locations. Following the two-week hunt, all egg sculptures will be on display at Rockefeller Center in a finale exhibition which will run 18 - 25th April.

Thirty selected eggs will then be offered online in a spectacular high profile live auction, and we’re excited to announce that Jacky Tsai’s egg has been chosen as one of the thirty. We’ll let you know how Jacky’s egg gets on towards the end of the month.

Created as an innovative and engaging platform to raise funds for Elephant Family and other non-profits, The Fabergé Big Egg Hunt caused a frenzy in London in 2012, set two Guinness World Record titles and ultimately raised over $1.5 million for charity.

Up to the minute updates can be found on Instagram and Twitter @TheBigEggHuntNY and through facebook.com/thebigegghunt. Join the conversation with #TheBigEggHuntNY.

Henrik Simonsen’s most recent screenprint edition, Untamed, sees the artist use the rich, heavy, warm light of late summer as influence for the colours he uses in this 15-colour screenprint. With cool blue tones against deep crimson and russet, the work also captures the play of sunlight and shadow that is so typical of the climate in the Western hemisphere at the height of its glory - just before it descends into Fall.

Across twenty-five limited editions of individual designs that our gallery have launched since 2012, almost 1000 hand-printed works have been created with the artist in a five year period. From these prints, approximately 800 have found homes in both public and private collections.

In our fast-paced, ever-changing world, where it seems we can barely keep up with the rapid development of technology, Jacky Tsai, an artist whose work juxtaposes the old and new, past and present, east and west, quite aptly explores the theme of AI technology in his new lenticular print edition - Artificial Intelligence.
