LUCIE BENNETT | TWO NEW ORIGINAL PAINTINGS AVAILABLE

July 10th 2015
‘Seated Nude Waiting’ and ‘Green Reclining Nude’ are two brand new original gloss on aluminium paintings by Lucie Bennett. Angie talks about the work below.

It’s now been 10 years since we released our initial ten 2005 screenprint editions by Lucie Bennett. Since then her work has become increasingly popular, with the amount of collectors growing month by month as more and more art lovers discover her eye-catching pieces.

Predominantly it’s the prints that sell the most frequently; 2013 saw the release of four large scale screenprint editions - Ring-A-Zing-Zing, Electric Dreams, Damson Fling and Racing Green - which we’ve shown exclusively at art fairs all over the world. Other editions include her two acrylic pieces Candy Stripe and Tutti Frutti, which saw the artist work in a new medium for the first time, and then this year we had the pleasure of releasing two neon works in editions of just 5, the first, Romy In Lights in striking pink and most recently Marianne in Lights in cool electric blue.

It was with painting, however, that it all started. When I first discovered Lucie’s work in 2003 she was working with latex as a ‘canvas’, but soon after that began to work on aluminium in high gloss paint, and it’s this process she still applies to her original paintings today. Beautifully smooth and reflective, Lucie’s paintings aren’t released very often, so when they are it provides a rare opportunity for collectors of her work, both regular and new, to obtain a unique piece by this highly sought after artist.

My personal favourite of the two we’re presenting today is Seated Nude Waiting. Colour is extremely important to Lucie, and with this piece she’s chosen to work with muted cappuccino tones, almost removing colour altogether - unusual for Lucie who usually works with a brighter colour palette. But it’s the composition of this piece that I love the most. There’s something endearing about the pose adopted by the female subject that’s unexplainable. Grounded, comfortable, relaxed yet open and ready to move when whatever she’s waiting for arrives, the position of this woman somehow seems to also capture her laid-back yet attentive personality.

Green Reclining Nude is much bolder in appearance, although continues to provide a feeling of calm with pleasing tones of green. This time the subject is stretched out; her arms above her head and one knee in the air with a pointed toe, almost as if she’s floating or falling gracefully from above. More abstract in composition than the previous piece, this painting leaves more to the imagination, adding a sense of mystery.

Minimal, serene and calmingly seductive, Lucie Bennett’s new paintings for me are like a breath of fresh air; their simplicity providing a welcome break from my more often than not busy lifestyle. See Seated Nude Waiting and Green Reclining Nude in more detail and buy online here.

Also available is the impressive Marianne in Lights, Lucie’s eye-catching neon edition released last month. Read more about the piece here.

DO YOU HAVE A DAMIEN HIRST TO SELL?
Valium
With two major exhibitions during the Venice Biennale, 2017 has been a year which has increased the awareness of Damien Hirst. With Hirst still actively releasing new print editions, many collectors focus on his earlier work from 2000 and before, such as Valium, Lysergic Acid Diethylamide (LSD), Opium, Beautiful, Galactic, Exploding Screenprint (Spin) and Painting-by-Numbers.

If you have one of the above prints that you are potentially interested in selling, please do get in touch with us via the Contact page, which you can find here.
