YANA ELKASSOVA | NEW PIECE IN RUSSIAN DOLL SERIES

March 18th 2015
Yana Elkassova’s Russian dolls have gained a lot of attention since we started showing them after spotting her work at the Camberwell College of Art degree show in 2010.

Her latest doll, Birth of an Icon, is based on the Semyonov factory doll - the design most associated with the traditional Russian Doll - and is Yana’s humorous take on how the iconic image gets dressed, with each piece putting on the next part of the costume.

See the piece in more detail and other work by Yana here.

British contemporary artist, Lucie Bennett paints female figures that exude a cool, calm confidence, both literally through the use of pose and body language, as well as abstractly in the fluidity of her lines. Bennett’s clean and elegant linear forms fall naturally across the surface of her paintings - the incredible ease of her artistic style enhancing her subjects as strong, confident women who also encapsulate a sensual femininity.

He plays with themes of banality, mass-appeal and commerce with arguably greater showmanship, and on a grander scale, than any artist before him.

In our fast-paced, ever-changing world, where it seems we can barely keep up with the rapid development of technology, Jacky Tsai, an artist whose work juxtaposes the old and new, past and present, east and west, quite aptly explores the theme of AI technology in his new lenticular print edition - Artificial Intelligence.
