During the 1980’s, Banksy was part of the massive aerosol boom that happened on the streets of Bristol, and in the past 15 years has made a name for himself by stencilling the streets of London, Bristol, Brighton and Los Angeles, with his trademark stencils of policemen, children, the elderly, soldiers, monkeys and rats. The work is often satirical, encorporating themes such as culture, ethics and politics and the messages evoked from the work are anti-war, anti-capitalist, anti-establishment or pro-freedom.
Banksy’s work has become an open air exhibition in which people flock to from all over the world. London has recently seen a Banksy tour open, in which people can be taken around the streets of London to see where his work is currently and where it has subsequently been removed due to some peoples opinions of the place being ‘vandalised’.
His original work is now appearing in major auctions all over the world and is hugely collectable, making Banksy one of the most sought after artists today.
