This week sees the opening of the Design Den at London’s Barbican gallery, where we’re exhibiting a selection of Eyestorm prints until Christmas. Angie Davey tells all…

The Barbican Centre, as it’s officially known, is in my opinion one of London’s most under-rated arts hubs. Home to the London Symphony Orchestra, it’s the largest performing arts centre in Europe, with a huge main hall, two theatres, three cinemas, two art galleries, three restaurants, seven conference halls and two exhibition halls. Despite its not-too-pleasing-to-the-eye 1960s exterior combined with 1980s interior and its location away from the West End and South Bank, Barbican gives off a natural air of sophistication and creativity, and always makes a worth while visit.

So we’re delighted to be collaborating with them for Design Den, a new pop-up shop in The Curve gallery on the ground floor – a large space (in the shape of it’s name!) that normally presents temporary exhibitions of new work by contemporary artists – that hopes to offer a new shopping experience for Barbican visitors.

The front of the space houses the main part of the shop, selling contemporary products from established and emerging design talent, as well as greetings cards and coffee table publications that focus on design, architecture, fashion and photography. Then further down into the gallery space, our limited edition prints and photography are showcased alongside a few of Barbican’s own publications.

Works on show include Martin Brent’s beautiful large-scale panoramic Snow Trees, Lucie Bennett's recently released screenprints and new ceramic works by Jacqui Chanarin.
