We’re delighted to discover that one of Simon Parish’s drawings has been shortlisted for this year’s prestigious Jerwood drawing prize, which goes on show at the Jerwood space on the 16th September.
The piece, titled Presents is marker pen on paper and measures 40x50cms in size.
The Jerwood catalogue says this of the work “Black and white stripes dominate this drawing and suggest hints of minimal abstract painting. Closer inspection reveal packages randomly placed. Simon Parish’s work is full of quiet affection for the most overlooked structures and situations. Implicit in the working process is an acceptance of the fact that our perceptions of the world are fluid and changeable and contingent on the distilling influences of culture, memory and experience.”
