Welcome to Eyestorm’s Press section. Below is some background information on Eyestorm and its development. For more details please contact us on (+44) 0845 643 2001 or via contact@eyestorm.com.
Founded in 1999, Eyestorm is the premier online retailer for limited-edition prints by the world's finest contemporary artists and photographers. During its eight-year existence, the company has collaborated closely with numerous internationally celebrated artists, including Damien Hirst, Jeff Koons, Helmut Newton and more recently Anthony Micallef. Since its foundation in 1999, Eyestorm has forged creative alliances with many respected art world organisations, including London’s Saatchi Gallery and the highly respected photographic agency Magnum.
Eyestorm's exclusively commissioned works – including screenprints, photographic prints and sculpture multiples – are produced in creative collaboration with the artists. The resulting works conform to the highest production standards and archival qualities, and are printed by the most highly-regarded fine art printers working today. All works are hand-signed by the artist or, in rare cases, artist-stamped. Since acquiring the ‘Britart’ company in 2003, Eyestorm has also been able to offer a selection of original works – oils on canvas, drawings, watercolours, sculpture, etc. – by established and emerging talents. In 2007, the Britart brand was fully incorporated into Eyestorm, but the works originally featured on the Britart site are now promoted on Eyestorm.com.
Buying art has traditionally been a somewhat intimidating activity, largely because for too long the art world has been comprised of polar opposites. At one end is the low-value, mass-produced poster market, and at the other the alienating, elitist realm of high-ticket fine art. Eyestorm was launched in December 1999 to occupy the vacant zone between these two poles. By harnessing the power of the internet, Eyestorm makes a broad selection of accessibly-priced, high-quality contemporary art available to a wider clientele than ever before by providing a hospitable, welcoming environment in which to view and buy. In doing so, Eyestorm offers artists a means of exposing their work to new and larger markets, allowing artists and audiences to interact in innovative ways.
