Christopher Griffith Biography

Self-taught Canadian photographer Christopher Griffith’s interest in photography first developed while he was studying biochemistry in Montreal. As he began to take more and more photographs, his love for the art developed and four months short of the end of his PhD in Genetics he dropped out of college to pursue a career with the camera.

Since then Griffith has enjoyed a successful number of years as a commercial photographer, working on high end fashion shoots and important advertising campaigns for companies such as British Airways, Wrangler, Chrysler, Hewlett-Packard, Toyota and Swiss International Air Lines. In his work, he attempts to capture the image independent of the subject and is known for creating bold and imposing photographs that have been described as ‘heroic’ images.

Griffith has lived in London, Paris and New York, where he now resides. He has published two books, the first of which, ‘States’ he won an award for. He has also won a number of awards for his photography. He has recently had an exhibition of his work at Galerie Crone in Germany and has shown his work frequently in New York over the past few years.

This image was taken inside the new headquarters of BMW in Munich just before completion in September 2007. The building, designed by architects Coop-Himmelblau, is supposed to resemble the spiral column created by a tornado.
