As Wilson prepares to tour Europe and North America, the piece draws its inspiration from the music of his recent album That Lucky Old Sun, a moving tribute to Southern California and a celebration of his life and career. Strictly limited to 1,000 copies worldwide, the cloth-bound, hand-numbered book is signed by both Wilson and Blake and includes an historical essay and brand new extensive interviews with Brian by noted music journalist and author Harvey Kubernik, which sees the musician speak about the music and inspirations for the album. With the book comes 12 individual collage works by Peter Blake, produced as hand-numbered limited edition screenprints printed on 410 gsm paper (shown here individually). Also included is hand-written sheet music and lyrics to the new track, ‘Midnight’s Another Day’ reproduced in three pieces of facsimile; an original laminate VIP pass from the live performances of That Lucky Old Sun and a CD pressing of the album. This stunning fine-art collection is presented in a hand-crafted box, made in Italy, and bound in two luxurious blue cloths representing the colours of the Californian sky and ocean. Blocked in gold and sliver, it also includes a portrait of Wilson on the inside cover. Blake said of his part: “This artwork is about Brian looking at somewhere like Venice Beach, for instance. It’s Brian’s California, which I’m very happy to make visual.” While Wilson said: “I wanted to put together a concept album about California. It’s all about capturing the mood of Southern California and the mood of LA in the Fifties and Sixties.”
