Polly Morgan Biography

It was a love of animals and the desire to preserve them that first caused British artist Polly Morgan to learn taxidermy back in 2005, which soon developed into her creating still lives with animals as the subject. Growing up in the Cotswolds, where there were always many, often unusual, pets around in the family home, Morgan has always had a close relationship with animals, which is apparent in the way she delicately creates her beautiful sculptural works. Acclaimed for her beautifully presented taxidermy works, British artist Polly Morgan has become one of the most acknowledged names working with the medium. By presenting animal subjects in unexpected scenarios, she encourages us to see animals in a different light. Rats and pigeons are placed peacefully sleeping next to chandeliers or inside champagne glasses; and small birds lying on top of frames with drawings inside of their habitual nests. Morgan’s study drawings are formidable and play an important preparational part of a new piece. The perfected drawing for Myocardial Infarction was released as a pair of lithographic editions with the same title in 2011.
