Jason Kedgley Biography

Happiest when working with geometry and typography, Kedgley’s ability to create innovative design makes these works almost pioneering in limited edition fine art printing. By placing stark white geometric shapes over complex designs with graduating tones, he explores the interplay between the surface texture of the screen printed ink and the reflective foil paper.

Born in 1969, Kedgley graduated with a graphics degree from London College of Printing in 1992 and then with an MA from Central St. Matins School of Arts, where he met John Warwicker, one of the founding members of Tomato, in 1993. After working with the group on a number of projects, he finally joined Tomato as a full time member in 1996. Tomato was co-founded in 1991 by nine people, two of whom are Karl Hyde and Rick Smith of electronic music group Underworld. Tomato’s work includes television and print advertising, corporate identity (for museums and cultural centres amongst others), clothing (including Reebok, Adidas and Levi’s), art installations, and record cover design, namely for Underworld. These prints are part of a series by four different artists that were published by Eyestorm for the ‘Cover Up’ exhibition at the Eyestorm gallery, which ran between 20th April and 20th May 2007. The exhibition explored the creative interface of contemporary art and music, and showcased a collection of work by selected artists that have worked on album cover art.
