Vanessa Clegg explores the nature of beauty and what we come to call beauty. Her work celebrates the form of the human body in all its distorted and contorted glory. Although unglamorous, her drawings are strong, powerful and real. The tactile quality of Clegg’s work is ironically suggested in the repetitive strokes on the paper’s surface, slowly building layers and reflecting time and it’s passing.

To consider the wrinkles, scars, liver spots, cellulite, hairs, veins and colours of our bodies changing surface as beautiful is not generally the norm; Clegg’s work proposes that it should be.
