In the early 70s, while teaching art in California, William Wegman became interested in photography and the infant medium of video. It was around this time that he also got his dog, Man Ray, with whom he began a long and fruitful collaboration. Man Ray became a central figure in Wegman’s photographs and videotapes, known in the artworld and beyond for his endearing deadpan presence. In 1982, Man Ray was named ‘Man of the Year’ by the Village Voice, while Wegman’s photographs, videotapes, paintings and drawings have been exhibited in museums and galleries internationally.
